Wire Marking and Cutting
Identifying every wire by colour, number or letter according to its function, and cutting it to precise length on automatic cutting machines. Prevents assembly errors and simplifies maintenance.
In automotive wiring, wire marking and cutting matter both for the efficiency of production and for the safety of the vehicle electrical system. These steps make correct assembly possible and prevent potential electrical faults.
Wire marking
Wire marking identifies each wire according to its function and its place in the system. Marking is usually done with colours, numbers or letters, so that different wires can be identified correctly, which simplifies both production and maintenance. A brake light wire, for example, is marked with a different colour and code than a wire coming from the engine control unit.
Thanks to wire marking:
- Wires are connected to the right points during assembly.
- Technicians can identify wires quickly during maintenance and repair.
- Electrical faults are easier to locate and repair.
In some automotive applications, marking is applied directly onto the wire by laser engraving, inkjet printing or labelling. These methods are applied without damaging the insulation and remain legible for a long time.
Wire cutting
Wire cutting means cutting every part of the harness to the correct length. Accurate cutting ensures that connection points are reached during assembly and that wires are neither taut nor slack. On the production line, wires are cut to the required dimensions with high precision on automatic cutting machines. These machines deliver identical, fault-free lengths while also increasing production speed.
Precision in cutting offers these advantages:
- Electrical losses and short-circuit risks are minimised.
- Wires that are neither taut nor slack extend the service life of the system.
- Assembly errors are prevented and labour time is reduced.
Wire marking and cutting are therefore among the most important stages of automotive harness production. Correctly marked and cut wires contribute directly to the trouble-free operation of vehicle electrical systems and to production efficiency.
